Ⅰ. About HIE

Hunan Institute of Engineering(HIE) is located in Xiangtan, the hometown of a great man: Mao Zedong. The might Xiang River flows eastward, nourishing this ancient land. The profound Huxiang Culture nurtures numerous people with lofty ideals.

Hunan Institute of Engineering was established in June 2000 with the approval of the Ministry of Education. It is merged by Xingtan Junior College of Mechanical and Electrical Engineering, founded in 1951 and Hunan Junior College of Textile founded in 1978. Now there are two campuses in HIE, the main campus and the south campus, with total area of 1.2 million square meters. The main campus lies at the bank of Xiang River, with the Muyu Lake Park in the central area of the campus, shining like a pearl. The south campus in Xiashesi Village boasts a long history of 70 years, where the lush green trees and ancient elegant buildings enrich the charms of each other.

HIE now has 16 departments and has authority to award masters degrees of engineering (including Power Engineering and Textile Engineering). Adhering to the motto of “work with perseverance and dare to be the first” and the principle of being an “application-oriented university”, HIE is committed to cultivating high-quality applied talents. In 2010, as one of the 12 municipal level under-graduated Colleges, HIE joined in the first “ education and training program for outstanding engineers” which was launched by the Ministry of Education. In 2011, HIE became the pilot university for the “education program for masters to serve the special needs of China”. In 2013, the program of “Collaborative Innovation Center for Wind Power Units and Electrical Energy Conversion” initiated by HIE, was selected into the first “Collaborative Innovation Centers 2011” among higher education institutions of Hunan Province. In 2016, HIE became the first university of its kind in Hunan Province which has a major with professional certification in engineering education. In 2017, HIE became a construction unit which will have authority to award master degree. In 2018, HIE became one of the first units engaged in the new engineering research and practice campaign launched by the Ministry of Education. In the “Double First-class” university construction tide in Hunan Province. HIE was awarded the honor of  “high-level application-oriented college”, 8 specialists being approved as application-oriented specialties.

All faculty in HIE will devote to education, guiding the students to discover the charms of science, the merits of humanity and the beauty of life. Students learn knowledge and exercise capacity in HIE. After graduation, they integrate their personal ideals into the tide of development of the times and build themselves into high-quality applied talents with character of diligence and high competence.

We are compatible and open-minded. Hunan Institute of Engineering is one of the earliest universities in Hunan province to establish a sino-foreign cooperative education project. It has signed cooperation agreements with more than 20 universities in the United States, Australia, the United States, Australia, the United Kingdom, New Zealand and other countries. In recent years, Hunan Institute of Engineering has sent a number of students to study abroad every year and also embraced many foreign students to study in HIE. In the long march toward the future, HIE will further the innovations and developments in the great construction of “New Engineering” and “Double First-class” program with more opening attitude.

Ⅱ. Application Categories and Majors

1. Non-degree Program (Language Training)

1) Should have a high school diploma or above, a valid passport, strong learning ability and good learning habits.

2) The length of this program is one academic year.

2. Degree Program (Undergraduate)

1)They should have a high school degree or above, and a score of 180 or above in HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) band 4.

2)Length: 5 years for Architecture; 4 years for the other majors.

3)Undergraduate international students and Chinese students will be in the same class.

3. Degree Program (Master)

1)Applicants for master's degree should have a bachelor's degree or above, and a score of 180 or above in HSK (Chinese Proficiency Test) band 5 score.

2)The postgraduate program lasts for 3 years and teaches in the same class with Chinese students.

Ⅲ. Application for admission

1. Eligibility

1) Foreign citizens, aged over 18 years old (by July 30, 2024),no criminal records.

2) Have good moral character; commitment to adhere to Chinese laws and regulations as well as HIE rules, respect China’s social morality and customs.

3) ability to perform successfully in an academic program in a foreign country, with certain Chinese or English communication skills;

4) With the corresponding high school or undergraduate certificate as required.

2. Application Time

1)The deadline for 2024 fall semester is June 30, 2024.

Ⅳ. Study cost

1)Application fee:CNY400/person

2)Insurance, physical examination, residence permit and other fees shall be paid to the relevant institutions by the students themselves after enrollment.

3)Text fees will be charged according to actual situation.

4)Tuition fee: CNY/year as indicated in each program

Ⅴ. Scholarship

1. Scholarship for HIE Non-degree Program International Students         

1)HIE provides scholarships for all new international students, the amount is 100% of the corresponding school year tuition.                    

2)Non-degree students who have studied in HIE for one year, passed the corresponding HSK grade test, passed the comprehensive evaluation in that year and continue to study for degrees in HIE can apply for a one-time scholarship for further study with CNY4000.

2. Scholarship for HIE Degree Program International students

1)HIE provides scholarships for all new degree program international students, the amount is 100% of the corresponding school year tuition.             

2)HIE offers scholarship degree program students with excellent academic achievements who have been enrolled in the school for the 2-4/5 years.

Ⅵ. Admission Time

The opening time of language students and degree program students is in September every year in principle. If students delay admission due to personal circumstances, they should apply to HIE in advance.

Ⅶ. Admission Process

1) Please visit http://gjy.hnie.edu.cn/info/1062/3213.htm to download and fill in the application form and family information form, send to the designated email address(lxshnie@hnie.edu.cn).

2) Please download the Physical Examination Record Form to the local public hospital for physical examination. The physical examinations must cover all of the items listed in the Foreigner Physical Examination Form. Incomplete forms or forms without the signature of the attending physician, or the official stamp of the hospital, or a sealed photograph of the applicant are considered as invalid. Please carefully plan your physical examination schedule as the result is valid for only 6 months.

3) Please send all other materials as required to the designated email.

4) The International Exchange Center of HIE organize experts to conduct preliminary examination on the application materials.

5) The International Exchange Center of HIE arrange video or on-site interview for the applicants who have passed the preliminary examination of materials, those who have failed the interview will not be admitted.

6) The formal Admission Notice, Visa Application Form for Study in China(JW202/201) will be sent to admitted applicants.

Remarks: No matter whether the applicants is accepted or not, the above application materials will not be returned.
